Natural Cures for Environmental Allergies

Environmental allergies are the hardest ones to control. Among all the Antihistamines that I’ve tried the only ones that really cured my son were the natural remedies. The advantage of utilizing natural or alternative remedies is because they are good for the body and don’t have any side effects. They strengthen the body and help minimize allergic reactions, or as in my case, completely cure them. On the other side prescriptions and antihistamines are a bit tricky. Once you get started on them you can’t stop, because the second you do all of the symptoms will instantly attack you. It’s a bad cycle and it does not allow the body to naturally adapt to the environment. In severe cases adaptation should be done slowly and with precaution, perhaps all prescriptions doses should be minimized gradually and exposure to allergen must be minimal and scheduled. To overcome environmental allergies one must heal internally first and then expose little by little to allergens such as pollen.

The solution that worked for my son was boosting immunity gradually. Nettle tea and honey bee pollen daily (half a spoon of honey bee pollen and three cups of nettle tea) worked like a miracle for him. At first, he drank half a cup each day till he got used to drinking three cups. Make sure you administer the correct amount to your child since nettle tea is full of Vitamins A, C, E, K, B, tannins, volatile oils, flavonoids, iron, calcium, potassium, phosphates, and various other minerals like silica. Do not ever sweeten the tea with white sugar. Processed sugar will increase the allergic reactions and lower immunity significantly. If your child is allergic to honey don’t sweeten at all, or try a bit of raw sugar. Also if she is stubborn and dislikes the taste of the tea, you can make ice pops out of the tea. Before bed time I also gave Dylan chamomile tea (an anti-inflammatory), which calmed him down and helped him sleep better. In worst cases you can also try the homeopathic antihistamine tablets called “Histaminum Hydrochlorium.” Along with a strict diet and juicing daily his levels were stable and there wasn’t a need for allergy shots and zyrtec.

Probiotics also boost immunity and, of course, don’t forget Vitamin C (1,000 mg three times a day for adults, for your little ones half that dose or even less depending on age and weight). Be careful on what type of vitamin C you purchase, the regular ones are made with allergens and other hard to digest and absorb chemicals. Instead try to buy them at a local organic market where they have organic and hypoallergenic vitamin C. Other supplements that are highly effective in preventing allergic reactions are Bioflavonoids (Quercetin), Grape Seed Extract, Vitamin B5, and Omega 3 fatty acids. All of these when taken on a daily basis are super effective and will reduce histamine reactions greatly.

To clear Dylan’s sinuses I used the neti pot, it’s a small pot that can be filled with saline water (sea salt and filtered water). The way it’s utilized is that you pour the saline solution in the nose and allow your child to cough it up along with mucus. I know it sounds gross, but it works like magic and it is a great alternative to the nasal spray.

For itchy and watery eyes the only thing that worked after a week of use were homeopathic tablets called “Euphrasia Officinalis.” I gave my son two tablets every hour when his eyes were really itchy, and later a total of five tablets under the tongue daily. Also when his eyes got really puffy, I gave him lot’s of chamomile tea (an anti-inflammatory) to drink and applied the cooled tea on the eyes with a cotton ball.

One more thing I did, which might sound crazy, is let my son play outside during pollen season on a windy day. I repeated the process every day to accustom his body to the allergen that it was rejecting. Exposure to the allergen helps your body accept it at some point. Might take longer for other individuals, but within a year my son has cleared up without conventional antihistamines and prescriptions. Let your kids play in the dirt daily and you’ll notice positive results sooner than expected.
